Overall Job Summary
This position is responsible for ensuring that the general ledger accounting functions for property and gross receipts taxes are performed accurately and timely. In addition, this position works with a 3rd party consultant to manage personal property tax compliance processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)
- Prepares, files, and remits related payments for gross receipts returns in accordance with tax laws in various jurisdictions. Reconciles the general ledger account monthly.
- Coordinates with outside 3rd party tax providers and provides 3rd party with necessary information to ensure personal property tax filings are completed, filed in a timely manner, and compliant with state and local jurisdictions. Reviews 3rd party generated renditions annually.
- Reviews personal property tax accrual activity on a monthly basis, prepares the entry for SAP import, and completes the account reconciliation.
- Prepares the personal property tax and gross receipts tax annual budgets for personal property and gross receipts tax general ledger accounts, considering factors such as future new stores openings, abatements, and periodic annual reassessments into account and provides the budgets to Finance and 3rd party consultant.
- Provides information and responds to inquiries from internal and external auditors. Reviews audit findings and implements any necessary changes to tax process.
- Processes all personal property incoming tax notices and tax bills.
- Partners with 3rd party consultants to identify opportunities to reduce property taxes and implements new strategies and processes. This also includes the review and recommendation to move forward with 3rd party suggested personal property tax appeals,
- Monitors properties with tax abatements/exemptions to ensure bills reflect anticipated savings.
- Researches and responds to inquiries from other department team members, as well as store, distribution center (DC) personnel.
Required Qualifications
Experience: 1-3 years of related experience. At least 1 year of experience in a financial or Accounting role.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field is preferred. Any suitable combination of education and experience will be considered.
Professional Certifications: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Ability to process, reconcile, and analyze electronic data.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office, including advanced skills in Excel.
- Experience with Systems, Applications, and Product (SAP) and Business Objects data management software, and OneSource Property Tax is preferred.
- Ability to research, audit, and analyze.
- Ability to interact and partner with professionals in various functional areas to resolve complex tax issues throughout Tractor Supply Company.
- Ability to represent Tractor Supply Company with external auditors and consultants.
