Architect, IT Enterprise

Overall Job Summary

This position is responsible for steering and coordinating architecture development, manage and optimize technology innovation, and develop and maintain the IT technology governance framework. This position also ensures the investments being made align to the greater IT strategy and business vision, support research and development of emerging technologies, and act as a source of truth to the technology landscape at Tractor Supply Company.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)

  • This position is responsible for driving domain technology plans to align with enterprise goals, business plans, and business processes for systems company wide.
  • Review market trends within the retail space and recommend technology strategies to align with the business initiatives.  Develop and maintain the technology roadmap that drives innovation within the organization. 
  • Review technical designs to ensure that they are consistent with defined architecture principles, standards, and best practices.  Accountable for the availability, stability, scalability, security, and recoverability enabled by the designs. Work with business partners to ensure design meets desired outcomes. 
  • Define and promote processes, policies, standards, and procedures to assure compliance with corporate and regulatory policies. 
  • Collaborate with both IT and business senior leadership to influence decisions controlling millions of dollars in annual technology and business investment. 
  • Develop and maintain artifacts in the Architecture library. 
  • Govern the introduction of new technologies.  Review, align, and drive technology plans with enterprise goals, business plans, and business processes. 
  • Define new processes and align them appropriately with existing architecture and operations processes.
  • Assess, recommend and build compelling business cases for emerging technologies and appropriate technical approaches for solutions.
  • Review Tractor Supply’s technology landscape and identify opportunities for cost savings.
     

Required Qualifications

Experience: 10 years of Information Technology experience with 5+ years of experience in solution architecture for larger organizations. 

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from an accredited college or university, Management Information Systems, or a related field preferred. Any suitable combination of education and experience will be considered.  

High Demand IT Specialized skills:  

  • Public and private cloud technologies
  • Containerization and Kubernetes
  • DevOps, CI/CD, and automation
  • Enterprise data management with an understanding of data gravity/locality
     

Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities

  • Superior knowledge of multiple, diverse technical configurations, technologies and processing environments across enterprise. 
  • Ability to lead a cross field team through strategy and architecture development 
  • Shown experience building and working with technology conceptual and logical models - capabilities, blueprints, information models, process models, principles, etc. 
  • Superior knowledge of business process re-engineering principles and processes
  • Ability to communicate and influence senior level leaders
  • Ability to influence engineering and architecture roles
  • Superior ability to estimate the financial impact of technical architectures.
  • Superior ability to quickly comprehend the functions and capabilities of new technologies. 
  • Superior ability to comprehend business strategies to ensure technical directions are supportive and consistent within the company. 
  • Superior ability to conduct analysis sessions and may contribute to “Closure Documents.”
