Dir, Strategy & Development (Continuous Improvement)
Overall Job Summary
The position is responsible for leading the long-term strategy process by identifying and prioritizing opportunities and defining, aligning, and facilitating the execution of our multi-year enterprise growth and enhancing our competitive advantage. This role is rotational and is intended to lead on to further organizational leadership opportunities, as such responsibilities and projects will evolve. Near-term responsibilities will likely focus on competitive analysis, long range planning, and corporate development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)
- Lead multiple work streams. Responsible for long-term strategy development: partnering cross-functionally and conducting analysis to regularly identify and prioritize opportunities to pursue and risks to address; leading executive working sessions to evaluate and prioritize, developing thinking into LT plan including key priorities, activities, targets, and metrics (in partnership with finance and business leaders); leading regular EC-level reviews on delivery of critical strategic initiatives; leading governance (e.g., establishing and monitoring KPIs to ensure plans are met); updating the Board of Directors as needed.
- Lead and support cross functional project teams to manage and execute priority initiatives.
- Provide thought leadership and oversee various business intelligence activities.
- Responsible for mentoring and developing junior members of the team, fostering a positive and engaged environment, as well as coaching and building capabilities throughout the organization as relevant and appropriate while partnered on major strategic projects and initiatives. Also responsible to help manage overall strategy team capability improvement (e.g., campus recruiting strategies, learning and development plans).
- Expected to become an expert over time in farm and ranch retail and use this knowledge to inform strategy development.
- Responsible for working with and managing 3rd party consulting organizations and external vendors as required.
Required Qualifications
Experience:
8+ years of experience in strategy consulting, investment banking, private equity, corporate strategy, or corporate development, including 3+ years of leadership experienced.
Broad range of functional experience and exposure preferred (e.g., strategy, marketing, BI / analytics, merchandising, supply chain, inorganic growth).
Retail and/or consumer packaged goods (CPG) experience strongly preferred.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree required, MBA or similar advanced degree in a competitive field preferred.
Significant experience working with and influencing stakeholders well above own tenure / level, as well as team members in very different roles (e.g., front-line).
Professional Certifications:
None required; lean / six sigma and other cost management qualifications / experience a plus for-Profit Improvement leadership.
Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities
- Comfort with (and excitement about) highly ambiguous problems, cross-functional teamwork, and regularly shifting priority set.
- Strong analytical skills and financial analysis literacy.
- Ability to foster strong internal relationships with stakeholders across the business to partner on initiatives and provide ongoing advisory support.
- Well-developed communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Passion for retail.
