Director, Indirect Tax
Overall Job Summary
This position is responsible for directing the Company's overall indirect tax compliance and tax accounting processes. These responsibilities include regular review of the sales tax laws and regulations of the U.S., the states, and the localities in which the company conducts business for sales taxes and miscellaneous fees, identification of areas where the Company could be affected, and the implementation of updated processes to accommodate any changes. This position is also responsible for directing the company's technology for all areas within tax which involves identifying, evaluating and implementing technology solutions that enable efficient, accurate, and sustainable tax reporting, compliance and planning activities.
Hybrid: Defined as coming into the office a min of 3 days/weekly.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)
- Oversee the indirect tax compliance process including the review of product taxability, sales tax exemption process both in store and online, and rate review for each store location.
- Manage consultant relationships within the tax department when used for software, filing, audit assistance, and special projects.
- Oversee the tax technology function evaluating opportunities, defining requirements, encouraging and managing the collaboration and design of process improvements, and ensuring the effective implementation of technology solutions associated with direct and indirect tax systems and processes.
- Regularly monitor state and local developments for every location of operation and advise other departments on the indirect tax ramifications of business decisions and changes.
- Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, payments and valuations related to the Company's indirect tax liabilities.
- Review the calculation and ensure timely payment of monthly and quarterly indirect tax and miscellaneous returns.
- Oversee all sales and use tax audits, providing direction on management and resolution of such audits and associated appeals.
- Ensure tax issues causing liabilities are timely addressed in all areas, collaborating with organization on strategies to eliminate liabilities and risk associated with recurring issues.
Required Qualifications
Experience: 10 years sales and use or indirect tax experience in a public accounting or corporate environment working directly in multi-state taxation required.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Finance, Taxation or Accounting required. Any suitable combination of education and experience will be considered.
Professional Certifications: CMI or eligibility to sit for CMI preferred

- Experienced Microsoft Office products user
- Experience with applications such as Alteryx, Access, and other automation tools preferred
