Director, Ops Accounting
Overall Job Summary
This position is responsible for leading a large group and directing all systems, processes, and procedures of Tractor Supply Company and Petsense (collectively, “TSCO”) for all of accounts payable including both $9 billion of merchandise spend and $2.5 billion of indirect spend, sales/audit function area ($14 billion of sales), and travel/expense compliance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)
- Develop and implement strategic initiatives for all aspects of the accounts payable area and sales/audit function, including continuous improvement of all policies and procedures in these areas (involves considerable cross-functional interaction among management personnel in other disciplines of TSCO including Store Operations, DC Operations, Logistics, IT, Merchandising, Finance, Accounting, E-Commerce, etc.)
- Recruit, maintain and develop a highly trained and motivated team. This includes, but is not limited to, establishing an organizational design to support the business including overseeing both onshore and offshore team members, hiring of staff, coaching and development of team members, counseling and corrective action as needed.
- Stay abreast of emerging trends and technological innovations in order to promote development and implementation of new systems and processes to help meet the company's strategic and operational goals in a cost-effective manner.
- Oversee and update ongoing documentation, testing, and procedures to ensure that the Accounts Payable area and the integration of new business are each in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Sarbanes Oxley.
- Ability to quickly identify issues, make executive decisions, and allocate the necessary resources to address those issues.
- Accounts Payable
- Responsible for all accounts payable activity for the organization, including but not limited to, invoice processing, variance and dispute resolution, vendor correspondence, payment authorization, and timely payment remittance. Additionally, ensure compliance with IRS 1099 reporting requirements.
- Governance of the more than 10 different payment systems feeding into the SAP core accounts payable system to ensure the complex systems have the proper controls and data flowing accurately.
- Oversight of policies, procedures, and internal controls which mitigate operational risk and safeguard company assets.
- Oversee the monthly closing process related to accounts payable, including reconciliations and detailed analyses to ensure all accounts payable expenditures are properly recorded.
- Lead negotiation of payment terms with vendors, including potential cash discounts for timely payments, in order to maximize working capital and cash flow management.
- Sales Audit
- Oversee all accounting aspects of sales audit function including the store reconciliation of $14 billion of annual sales to cash receipts.
- Ensure the accuracy of cash/credit card receipts and ensuring variances are resolved timing between stores, banks, and systems.
- Travel and Expense Compliance
- Lead the oversight of the company’s travel and expense compliance to ensure team members are adhering to the policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
Experience: 10+ years of corporate accounting experience
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or related field.
Professional Certifications: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities
- Ability to lead and motivate large teams
- Knowledge of accounts payable, inventory, and article management processes.
- Accounting, GAAP, and Sarbanes Oxley rules/guidelines knowledge.
- Capable of documenting and testing controls over financial reporting.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office.
