Engineer, IT Privacy - Digital
Overall Job Summary
The Engineer, IT Privacy supports TSC’s Privacy Program within a highly dynamic, fast paced, and diverse organization. The Engineer will ensure technical solutions and data handling practices across IT and business entities meet privacy compliance requirements. This role will advise IT teams during project development and deployment to support areas such as AdTech, data governance, lifecycle management and consent and preference initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)
- Assists IT teams in designing data privacy, protection, usability, and security solutions, collaborating with app developers and system owners to ensure adherence to privacy principles
- Partners with Privacy, Information Security and IT leadership to advise teams that manage data and related systems, and to define and audit processes for management of digital advertising activities and handling PII across all web and mobile app platforms
- Advises IT teams, including app developers, during the design of notices and consent and preference management solutions, including regular oversight of website tracking technologies
- Champions the integration of Privacy Enhancing Technologies throughout the software development lifecycle, ensuring a proactive and strategic approach to privacy.
- Partners with various teams across the company to ensure continued awareness of AdTech solutions, structured and unstructured data, and related processing activities
- Collaborates with Privacy Team and Legal to ensure aligned understanding of regulatory requirements and their implications for IT systems and process design
- Provides design oversight and app integration support as needed for Privacy tools
- Engages with IT and business teams during project planning and design, evaluating Privacy and Risk Assessment results with Privacy leadership and advising project teams accordingly
- Effectively communicates concerns, recommendations, and innovative opportunities to key stakeholders and leadership
- Provides occasional after-hours support in response to issues or urgent requests
Required Qualifications
Experience: 3-5 years’ experience in role(s) supporting privacy, data protection, eCommerce, or related IT initiatives
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Security, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field. Any suitable combination of education and experience will be considered.
Professional Certifications: CIPT or other IAPP Privacy Certification preferred
High Demand IT Specialized Skills:
Platform Knowledge (UNIX, Linux, Windows):
Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities
- Experience with OneTrust or similar privacy compliance platforms
- Basic knowledge of US state privacy laws and proficiency with applying legal requirements to technical solutions design
- Involvement in risk identification, tracking, and mitigation advisory processes
- Experience in privacy-focused design processes for websites and applications that include privacy notices, consent mechanisms, and preference management functionality
- Ability to identify problems/opportunities, analyze root cause, evaluate technical solutions to support compliance needs, and present recommendations
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills, able to communicate technical issues to non-technical audiences
- Ability to interact with internal customers at all levels to resolve issues and provide solutions
- Retail experience supporting marketing and customer engagement initiatives preferred
- Understanding of AI risks and challenges as they relate to data privacy a plus
