Manager, Merch Planning
Overall Job Summary
The Manager, Merchandise Planning leads a team responsible for executing the strategic vision of Tractor Supply Company to maximize profitability and inventory productivity. The Manager oversees Budgeting, Pre-Season Planning, Assortment Planning, Open to Buy and Data Analytics for an assigned Merchandising Division. This position requires strong collaboration with Merchandising, Inventory Management, Space Planning, Pricing and Supply Chain.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)
- Lead and manage a team of merchandise planners in the development, analysis and revision of sales, inventory, markdowns, and profit.
- Build long range plans in support of assigned merchandising division that aligns with company goals utilizing advanced analytics and statistical analysis.
- Ensure the financial strategy is consistent with the financial budget and profit parameters of the assigned merchandising division.
- Develop and maintain risk assessment modes to determine buy levels, maintain profitability, and influence the Open to Buy positions of the merchandise planners.
- Create processes that support integrated business planning in collaboration with cross functional business partners.
- Recommend actions and communicate issues that relate to financial planning of merchandise or that may hinder TSC’s ability to achieve financial objectives.
- Lead and direct appropriate business meetings to ensure that the financial plan aligns with the Merchandising strategy to achieve company goals, present information to senior leadership.
- Hire and develop a quality team of merchandise planners with a focus on training and development of skills and business acumen.
- Create an environment to support succession planning and regular performance reviews which address personal growth and development.
- Build strong partnerships with cross-functional teams in Merchandising, Inventory Management, Space Planning, Pricing and Supply Chain to drive strategy and manage the business.
Required Qualifications
Experience: 6+ years’ experience in Merchandise Planning, Assortment Planning, Allocation, Financial Analysis or Merchandising; 1-2 years of managing a team preferred.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, or related study. Any suitable combination of education and experience will be considered.
Professional Certifications: None.
Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities
- Expertise in Retail Math with strong statistical, analytical, and mathematical skills.
- Preferred Systems Experience: SAP, Business Objects, JDA, TM1, MMS, E3 or other planning/inventory management software.
- Strong skill set in Microsoft Office, highly skilled in Excel.
- Highly effective verbal and written communication skills with emphasis on communicating financial concepts.
- Ability to read and analyze financial reports along with summarizing findings to create actions.
- Proven track record of process of improvement and problem-solving.
- Good organization and workload prioritization skills, detail oriented.
