Merchandising Development Program Trainee - June 2025
Overall Job Summary
This position is responsible for participating in an accelerated, rotational training program to learn the foundations of a retail business. The trainee will apply knowledge gained through participation in classroom, on-the-job, and computer based learning activities with the support of a Rotation Manager. Trainees will learn about the Tractor Supply Company mission, values, history and culture; basic retail math, our systems, and receive an overview of the responsibilities across the Merchandising and Merchandising support functions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)
- Participate in group and individual training sessions and demonstrate learning through successful completion of program assessments.
- Complete rotations through Merchandising and Merchandising Support areas of the Store Support Center.
- Shadow team members to understand the process flow and big picture.
- Apply new knowledge and skills through guided on-the-job activities.
- Visit stores, DC and the Merchandise Innovation Center (MIC).
- Complete a special project using knowledge gained through rotations and collaboration with internal partners. Present findings to senior leadership.
- Apply new skills and knowledge to support the Inventory Management team in managing the inventory productivity for selected merchandise categories.
- Create an individual development plan with assistance from Program and HR Mentor.
Required Qualifications
Experience: Prior retail and leadership experience preferred.
Education: Recent graduate with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Retail Management, Supply Chain, Marketing or related field required. Internal candidates with equivalent experience will be considered.
Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities
- Professional skill development in areas such as time management, change management, strategic thinking, and personal accountability will also be offered. The program will prepare the Trainee for a successful career in Merchandising or Merchandising Support areas, including Inventory, Planning, Supply Chain, Buying, Pricing, Product Development, Omni Channel, Marketing or Merchandise Presentation. The first placement upon completion of the 12-week training program will be in Inventory Management.
