Senior Analyst, Engineering
Overall Job Summary
The Sr Engineering Analyst is responsible for supporting process improvements and best practices (safety, productivity, quality, and storage utilization) within the Tractor Supply DC Network through the design and execution of analytical models and reports. The primary focus area is data analytics in the areas of DC capacity and slotting. The Sr Engineering Analyst’s goal is to improve flow by reducing overall touches in a distribution center (DCs) by effectively reducing replenishments and getting more items picked for our stores. The position also involves input into the design and location layout of new DCs, and established DCs that require layout improvements to satisfy changes in product mix. The Sr. Engineering Analyst trains onsite people, management and hourly, to deal with slotting various issues. The Sr. Engineering Analyst helps create SOPs that pertain to slotting and engages in continuous improvement of reporting and the requesting of new reports that help streamline Inventory Control processes. The Sr Engineering Analyst helps instruct changes in dimensional data. The Sr. Engineering Analyst is knowledgeable on SKU attributes in WM and also min-max within the systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)
- Leverage analytical expertise to define business problems, collect relevant raw data for analysis, analyze data, present findings in easy-to-consume formatting, present fact-based recommendations to leadership, build what-if models, and partner with DCs and SSC leadership to monitor progress against desired business outcomes.
- Independently assess key areas of DC operations that need analytical support.
- Extract data from business applications using Manhattan WMOS, IBM Cognos, SAP Business Objects, Kronos, and Compass Order Routing System (CORS).
- Conduct analysis using tools available – Excel, Access, Tableau, Alteryx, Oracle SQL Developer, or Google Analytics.
- Convert raw data into insights and present recommendations to leadership using data visualization, charts and graphs.
- Build models to support what-if scenarios using linear and non-linear programming methods.
- Leverage expertise to define slotting opportunities including but not limited to ABC Analysis, cube movement, storage type, consolidation, SKU affinity, and warehouse zoning/sequencing.
- Support Logistics Process Improvement Managers (LPIM) with routine data entry and reporting of key operational indicators.
- Help LPIMs define which operating indicators should be tracked on a regular basis.
- Establish the intake, data entry, and reporting tools/processes for sustained monitoring.
- Execute the data entry and reporting on time and accurately as required by LPIMs.
- Support planning and execution of day to day DC slotting process and other operational challenges
- Aid in the planning and documentation of both functional and technical business requirements needed to create improved and sustainable slotting processes for the TSC DC Network.
- May perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Experience: 5+ experience in a DC environment (inventory control, slotting or Operations).
Education: Bachelor’s Degree is required, preferably in the field of Logistics, Engineering, Operations or Business. Additional experience may be substituted for Degree. Any suitable combination of education or experience will be considered.
Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities
- Advanced Excel skills including VLOOKUP and pivot tables.
- Experience with business tools: Alteryx, Tableau, WMS, Business Objects, SAP and Slotting software.
- Ability to manage multiple projects at once, multi-tasking. Strong communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to self-motivate and work with little supervision, work with a sense of urgency, and to prioritize tasks.
- Displays a detail- oriented approach to work.
- Ability to positively handle conflict.
- Ability to travel up to 30%.
