Sr Architect, IT Retail Systems (Infrastructure)
Overall Job Summary
The Sr Architect position is responsible for leading domain technology plans to align with enterprise goals, business plans and business processes for systems within complex functional areas. Additional responsibilities include collaboration with architects on cross-functional designs and mentoring team members.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)
1. Analyze, develop, and support the development of domain roadmaps that align with goals, business plans, and business processes.
2. Lead project planning activities for a development or engineering team to meet enterprise schedule.
3. Lead creation of project design documentation and provide technical oversight to ensure successful delivery.
4. Lead maintenance of domain standards complying with enterprise standards, ensuring solutions are optimally designed, secure, well performing and integrated with other solutions.
5. Lead evaluation of new technology for use in domain.
6. Create documentation of domain technology used to perform business processes.
7. Work with cross-functional teams, and other IT and business stakeholders, to ensure the successful planning and execution of systems projects.
8. Provide leadership and guidance in the design and implementation of functional solutions to gain competitive advantage in support of business needs and strategies.
9. Responsible for evaluating emerging technologies in the domain, development of domain-specific roadmaps, and providing technical oversight for solution design and implementation.
10. Review technical specification documents created by the development team and mentor team members.
Qualifications
High Demand IT Specialized Skills
* Working Security/PCI/SOX compliance knowledge
* Software development knowledge (programming models, runtime execution environments, software design patterns, software engineering, software documentation); Point of Sale (POS) preferred
* Understanding of business functionality, interfaces, data flow and functional architecture of systems supported
* Aptitude for creative thinking, decision-making, learning, problem-solving, systems thinking, personal ethics, organizational skills and trustworthiness
* Experience making hosted vs. on premises decisions and leading migration to the cloud
* Working knowledge of application containers and containerization pros/cons
* Strong analytical, diagnostic and problem-solving skills with ability to work independently to prioritize and handle multiple tasks
* Specific knowledge of Unix, Windows, Linux OS
* Working knowledge in administering Windows Active Directory (AD) and Group Policy Object (GPO)
* Proficiency in system hardware architecture and implementation
* Knowledge of infrastructure and server theories, principles and concepts; application infrastructure and standards; networking fundamentals; Windows; Physical Server architecture; Virtualization technologies (e.g. Hyper-V, VMware) and LAN/WAN/Firewall/VPN network technologies
* Mobile device knowledge and ability to lead technical solutions involving mobile device selection, deployment, Mobile Device Management and operational support for mobile device solutions
* Ability to define data reporting criteria and how to use these reports to identify trends and as a means of troubleshooting recurring problems
* Understanding of both business and systems processes and an ability to understand and explain issues from both a technical and a business functional point of view
* Strong interdisciplinary problem-solving skills, demonstrated by frequent and successful application of technical standards, theories, concepts, and techniques
* Ability to work as a member of a highly collaborative team
* Demonstration of strong oral and written communications, teaching, facilitation and negotiation, leadership and influencing skills
* Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment
Platform Knowledge
* 10+ years of experience in Retail Infrastructure and Point of Sale (POS) systems
* 3 years of experience as a Solution Architect, Domain Architect or Enterprise Architect
* Demonstrated proficiency in:
* Infrastructure and applications architecture modeling and design
* Design documentation
* System qualities and tradeoffs - solution evaluation experience
* Software security methods and models
* Application frameworks
Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities
- Advanced knowledge of diverse technical configurations, technologies, and processing environments.
- Advanced ability to comprehend business requirements to ensure technical directions are supportive and consistent within the company.
- Advanced ability to quickly comprehend the functions and capabilities of new technologies.
- Advanced critical thinking skills with the ability to develop completely new problem-solving approaches and formulate innovative solutions.
- Advanced knowledge of SOA and object-oriented analysis and design.
- Advanced knowledge of business process re-engineering principles and processes.
- Advanced ability to conduct analysis sessions and may contribute to “Closure Documents.”
- Strong ability to estimate the financial impact of technical architecture alternatives.
