Sr Engineer, IT Privacy
Overall Job Summary
The Sr Engineer, IT Privacy role will support TSC’s Privacy Program within a highly dynamic, fast-paced, and diverse organization. The Sr Engineer will work to ensure technical solutions and data handling practices across IT and business entities meet privacy compliance requirements. This role will partner with other IT teams during project development and deployment to support data governance, lifecycle management, and consent and preference initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)
- Facilitate, in conjunction with other IT teams, designing data privacy, protection, usability, and security solutions, collaborating with app developers and system owners to ensure adherence to privacy principles
- Partner with Privacy, Information Security and IT leadership to advise teams that manage customer and employee data and related systems, defining and auditing processes for handling PII, including collection, de-identification, classification, and retention
- Partner with Data Governance, DLP/Security, and Enterprise Architecture personnel to ensure continued awareness of structured and unstructured data and related processing activities
- Collaborate with Privacy Team and Legal to ensure aligned understanding of regulatory requirements and their implications for IT systems and process design
- Champion the integration of Privacy Enhancing Technologies throughout the software development lifecycle, ensuring a proactive and strategic approach to privacy
- Provide design oversight and app integration support as needed for Privacy tools
- Collaborate with other IT and business teams during project planning and design, evaluating Privacy and Risk Assessment results with Privacy leadership and advising project teams accordingly
- Evaluate privacy tools and advise other IT teams in the use of Privacy Enhancing Technologies, providing guidance on developing new privacy features and functionalities
- Effectively communicate concerns, recommendations, and innovative opportunities to key stakeholders and leadership
- Provide occasional after-hours support in response to issues or urgent requests
Required Qualifications
Experience: 5+ years’ experience in role(s) supporting privacy, data protection, or related IT initiatives
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Security, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field. Any combination of education and experience will be considered.
Professional Certifications: CIPT or other IAPP Privacy Certification preferred
Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities
- Working knowledge of US state privacy laws and proficiency with applying legal requirements to technical solutions design
- Experience with OneTrust or similar privacy compliance platforms
- Involvement in privacy risk identification, tracking, and mitigation advisory processes
- Experience in privacy-focused design processes for websites and applications that include notice, consent and preference management functionality
- Proven ability to identify problems/opportunities, analyze root cause, evaluate technical solutions to support compliance needs, and present recommendations
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills, able to communicate technical issues to non-technical audiences
- Ability to interact with internal customers at all levels to resolve issues and provide solutions
- Retail experience supporting marketing and customer engagement initiatives preferred
- Understanding AI risks and challenges as they relate to data privacy
