Sr. Mgr, IT Store Engineering
Overall Job Summary
This position is responsible for establishing company standards for the retail technology used in our stores. This individual will direct and coordinate the design, deployment, support, and performance tuning of all retail and mobile technology. Manage, grow, and inspire a team of System Engineers focusing on supporting complex mixed technology environments to support retail store solutions.
This position is responsible for the oversight and development of Retail applications for use in and supporting Tractor Supply Stores. Additional responsibilities include technical leadership, supervising/mentoring team members, and leading projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)
Application Engineering
- Assess and cultivate long-term strategic goals for IT's area of responsibility in conjunction with department managers, clients, and other key stakeholders.
- Manage the development and deployment of applications for use by TSC Stores and Team Members. Contribute to the overall architecture of the store application landscape.
- Hire, manage, develop, and motivate store systems team.
- Review and analyze existing applications and system effectiveness and efficiency/develop strategies for improving or leveraging these systems.
- Research and make recommendations on software products and services in support of procurement and development efforts.
- Meet with store field management to identify store opportunities.
- Create and define development process for future omni-channel needs.
- Disseminate and enforce functional policies, procedures, and quality assurance best practices.
- Sponsor, promote and execute on projects to prototype and pilot new technologies in TSC stores.
Hardware Engineering
- Build, lead, and develop the teams responsible for retail technology engineering, deployment, and support.
- Responsible for the architecture and standards for IT hardware, software, and mobile technology used in the stores.
- Recommend equipment, new concepts, and techniques to improve performance, simplify deployments, and reduce costs.
- Manage the refresh of technology in stores. The process should be minimally disruptive to the store and should strive to replace the oldest most problematic equipment on a regular periodic basis.
- Manage IT equipment and software maintenance programs to affirm proper levels of service are in place to limit service interruption.
- Use insights gathered from store feedback, retail technology field audits, and best practices to make recommendations and deliver innovative and reliable products to the stores.
Required Qualifications
Experience: 10 years related work experience in the information technology field. 6+ years of direct management experience leading teams. Experience in mobility and mobile applications. Experience with Windows and Linux from an enterprise systems perspective. 5 years of retail experience.
Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred. Any suitable combination of education and experience will be considered.
Platform knowledge (UNIX, Linux, Windows): Linux, Windows 7, and 10
Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of retail technology hardware, software, and remote management solutions.
- Comprehensive knowledge of procurement, support, and installation of telecommunication services.
- Ability to review and analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems and process and develop strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.
- Must be able to contribute to planning, design and development of new technologies and enhancements.
- Experience with software development lifecycle (SLDC) methodology preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of architecture, design, development, and implementation of store systems, including POS/mobile applications and/or payment devices.
- Superior ability managing teams working with various programming languages such as Java, .net and C.
- Superior negotiation and vendor management skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
