Transportation Planner
Overall Job Summary
The Transportation Planner is responsible for the coordination of activities related to moving product with TSC's domestic network. Including Stores, Vendor locations, DC's, Mixing Centers, and Pop Ups. This role serves as the central hub of information for inbound and/or outbound shipments. The Transportation Planner is also responsible for mitigating issues that will impact on-time service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)
- Utilize Transportation Management System (TMS) to plan, optimize and tender freight
- Resolve recalled/rejected tenders
- Identify issues that impact achievement of on-time pickup/delivery; develop and execute resolution or escalate where necessary
- Ensure use of contracted carriers where applicable
- Negotiate spot rates with carrier partners where necessary to cover volume over committed capacity
- Communicate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve issues and share information related to shipments. Includes tracking and tracing of shipment to meet agreed upon service metrics
- Work with cross-functional teams to drive delivery of logistics improvement initiatives within assigned market/geographical region
- Provide back up support to team members when necessary
- Create outbound load guides and store direct delivery optimizations in a 7-day environment requiring some weekend coverage
Required Qualifications
Experience: 2-3 year’s relevant experience in transportation/logistics industry.
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business, logistics, or transportation is preferred. Any suitable combination of education and experience will be considered.
Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities
- Proven ability to communicate clearly in difficult situations
- Proven ability to effectively collaborate with multiple business partners (internal and external)
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Experience with Transportation Management Systems, preferably Manhattan
- PC literacy to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office products such as: Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, and co-workers
- Ability to combine transportation operations knowledge and analytical problem solving to provide insights that drive both operational and strategic benefits
