Overall Job Summary
The VP, IT Strategy, Governance & Enterprise Solutions is responsible for the technical direction and strategic planning within the Information Technology department at Tractor Supply Company. This includes aligning the technology strategy to the broader corporate strategy, ensuring that investments are driving business value that ties to our goals and shareholder value.
This role directly and indirectly manages the teams responsible for highly cross-functional project delivery, overall IT spend of over $400M, ensuring system stability, introduction of new system capabilities, and technical vision to support TSC’s growth strategy. This position also acts as the primary interface between IT and the business – ensuring strong prioritization and product roadmaps that support the enterprise strategy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)
- Develop and execute our IT strategy, ensuring alignment with the broader company’s business goals by working closely with the corporate strategy Team.
- Cultivate strong business relationships with the executive team and Officers across the organization to drive prioritization for the enterprise, resulting in technology roadmaps that drive business value, innovation, scale, and performance.
- Drive IT strategic planning activities by partnering with the Officers across all areas of TSC, including IT, Store Operations, Merchandising, Marketing, Digital, Finance and others to allocate over $150M in capital technology investment.
- Oversee technology and architecture decisions in the organization – including digital application engineering, cloud computing, SAP, mobility, generative artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies (including open source).
- Create and maintain the Technology budget of over $400M for the organization – optimizing capital and operational expenses and ensuring cost-effective solutions.
- Drive the delivery of over 200 projects and initiatives annually across multiple business and technology domains including (but not limited to) our digital, store, marketing and supply chain functions – ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery through various methodologies.
- Identify, design, and implement creative solutions and frameworks involving people, process, and technology to deliver against IT and company strategic objectives, coordinating across multiple organizational teams.
- Participate in the evaluations of potential technology partners and M&A targets.
- Partner with other IT leaders to maintain and ensure strong governance processes are in place and adhered to, prioritization is consistent across domains, systems and changes are properly tested to minimize risk, and TSC systems are always available and secure.
- Maintain a strong partnership and working relationship with all third-party partners to ensure TSC is receiving the best possible resources and that vendors are on schedule with projects and initiatives leveraging vendor scorecards, profit improvement activities and continuous improvement processes to drive spend optimization.
Required Qualifications
Experience: 15 years of IT experience preferably in the retail industry, and 10+ years in a senior leadership position (VP or higher).
Education: Master’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related technical field is preferred.

Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities
- In-depth knowledge of software development, systems architecture, cloud computing, cybersecurity and emerging technologies, including generative AI.
- Proven experience in managing and leading technology teams, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to develop and execute a long-term technology vision that supports business objectives.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
- Familiarity with the retail industry and an understanding of how technology can drive business success.
- Broad experience with project management methodologies and tools, including traditional waterfall, agile, iterative and other models.
- Experience in product management/development and lifecycle management.
- Skilled in continuous improvement disciplines
- Understanding of financial principles related to budgeting and resource allocation.
- Ability to establish and document standards, guidelines, and best practices.
