Manager, Regional Transportation
Overall Job Summary
This position is responsible for managing, developing and directing the movement of all transportation activities from distribution centers, feed crossdocks and mixing centers to all TSC stores within the assigned region. This includes managing a 7-day operation, replenishment and delivery of goods, as well as the consistent implementation and execution of company operating initiatives, policies and practices of optimizing freight movements from all TSC origins and destinations. The Manager is also responsible for all customer service, yard management (spotting and guard shack), communication, problem resolution and schedule development with store and district management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)
- Develop and manage daily truck routing for all store deliveries. Develop and coordinate replenishment and delivery schedules from the DC to ensure on time delivery to stores within the DC region; maintain a balanced DC replenishment and delivery schedule for stores, DC and carriers.
- Manage all customer service activities with servicing stores including but not limited to; load quality feedback survey and quality initiatives, shortage/damage problems, carrier/driver issues, inventory research, store scheduling, etc.
- Manage the contract carrier trailer pools at the DC’s and other locations (feed cross docks) to ensure a continued flow of equipment for loading and unloading.
- Manage DC yard management (all occurrences outside the walls of the DC) and 3rd party spotter operations/compliance.
- Establish new store initial timelines for Soft and Grand Openings, to include centralized pick and DC replenishment plans and scheduled DC and feed delivery days. Coordinate all carrier lane rates through SSC, serve as the primary focal point for all store communications and ensure consistent and steady flow of all new store merchandise.
- Act as liaison with Store Operations to maximize visibility of shipments inbound to stores and minimize disruptions and additional expense to store labor.
- Provide direction to DC shipping department to ensure trailers are loaded/billed timely, trailer cube utilization is maximized and trailer release schedules are maintained to ensure on time delivery performance.
- Lead the development of carrier capacity availability to maintain sufficient truck and driver capacities along with seasonal activities to ensure on time service to the stores.
- Manage the DC gate operations and 3rd party contract execution/compliance.
- Assist carriers with issues in TMS system resulting from update problems/errors.
- Single point of contact for the development of all routing for emergency shipments from DC to stores. Manage the coordination of delivery scheduling, communications with stores and carriers to ensure merchandise is delivered within 24 hours of purchase order receipt at the DC for all emergency orders.
- Assist in budget development, financial review processes and gathering data for analytical studies.
Required Qualifications
Experience: 5-7 years of logistics, distribution, supply chain or transportation experience.
Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business, logistics, or transportation is preferred, but not required. High School education is required; any suitable combination of education and experience will be considered.
Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities
- Ability and proficiency in Microsoft Office software
- Able to travel up to 25%
