DC Team Lead

Overall Job Summary

The DC Team Lead assists the department supervisor or manager by directing the flow and performance of work in a manner that meets company standards for accuracy, safety, security, productivity and quality. This position operates a variety of tools and equipment; may conduct quality audits; perform special projects and cycle counts; and perform a variety of administrative tasks.  This position assists in training new or current DC team members in performing assigned duties.

 

Schedule: 12A – Saturday through Monday, 6AM to 6PM

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)

  • Assist with planning and forecasting workload and labor hours needed for next shift or the week. 
  • Assist in preparing and ensuring standard operating procedures (SOP) are followed.
  • Organize tasks into complete jobs by shifting team members to meet workload requirements.  Assist in assigning duties to team members on behalf of department supervisor.
  • Train, motivate and guide team members to be proficient on assigned duties and meet production standards in assign areas. Ensure team members know their work and what is expected during the shift.
  • Coordinate work assignments and activities with other areas of the distribution center.
  • Track and record the performance of team members and the work group, and help team members improve their performance as needed.
  • Ensure that job assignments are completed accurately and free of damage.
  • Ensure accuracy of performance is evaluated through periodic random audits and measured against the company accuracy standards.
  • Adhere to all deadlines for distribution center processes.
  • Comply with all OSHA and MSDS standards. Operate all equipment in a safe manner. Inspect equipment each day before use. 
  • Conduct job duties in a manner which promotes safety by using PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as required. 
  • Maintain a clean neat and orderly work area. 
  • Perform administrative tasks including but not limited to audits, cycle counts, scheduling, filing, cleaning and other administrative functions as assigned.
  • Accept responsibility and cooperate with managers, supervisors and coworkers.
  • Take initiative to correct issues without direction. Offer solutions to problems and fully supports the team’s efforts.
  • Complete all training provided. Assist in training new and current Team Members. 
  • Operate any or all the following equipment:  RF terminal and barcode scanner, 2-way radio, Computer terminal or PC, lift truck, pallet jack, dock door leveler, stretch wrap machine, tools etc.
  • May prepare and process a wide variety of reports as directed.
     

Required Qualifications

Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in a distribution center is preferred. 

Education: High School education or equivalent preferred.

Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities

  • Ability to plan, organize, give direction and control workflow and processes.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language. Must be able to count accurately and perform basic math.
  • Ability to take initiative to correct issues without direction, offer solutions to problems and support a team effort.
  • Knowledge of operating any or all of the following: RF terminal and bar code scanner, 2-way radio, computer terminal or PC, lift truck, pallet jack, dock door leveler, stretch wrap machine.
     

Working Conditions

  • Required to work in a physical environment that is subject to temperature extremes, movement of mobile and fixed equipment, possible exposure to hazardous products, dust and other conditions associated with a warehouse operation

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to move and transfer merchandise, weighing up to 50-75 pounds, throughout the distribution center.
  • Ability to occasionally lift or reach merchandise overhead.
  • Ability to frequently stand, kneel, twist, crouch, squat, bend, stoop, and climb ladders for up to 12 hours.
  • Ability to move throughout the distribution center for an entire shift.
  • Ability to safely access all areas of the distribution center, including stairs and all levels/floors.
  • Ability to push and pull merchandise up to 2,000 pounds with the assistance of proper MHE (e.g. pallet jack, forklift, etc.)
  • Ability to read, write, and count accurately to complete all documentation.
  • Ability to utilize strong written and verbal communication skills to communicate effectively with team members.
  • Ability to process information / handle merchandise in a safe manner, according to distribution center and OSHA safety rules and regulations.
  • Ability to successfully complete all required training and certification.
  • Ability to drive or operate a vehicle for business needs.
