Lead Developer, IT Data Integration

Overall Job Summary

This position is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and supporting enterprise Java applications, APIs, and cloud-native microservices. Additional responsibilities include providing technical leadership, mentoring team members, driving solution design, and leading development efforts across Java, Spring Boot, Azure, API Management, Kubernetes, and event-driven integration technologies.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)

  • Meet with technical leads, architects, business partners, and vendor partners to determine project scope and technical vision, define system goals, identify and resolve technical issues, and ensure solutions are implemented according to established architecture and development standards.
  • Partner with business analysts and product teams to review and refine business requirements into scalable technical capabilities and application solutions.
  • Lead the design and development of enterprise applications and microservices using Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and cloud-native architecture patterns.
  • Design and implement scalable, resilient, and highly available solutions using microservices and event-driven architectures.
  • Develop, configure, build, review, unit test, and support software solutions and reusable application components.
  • Design and implement API solutions using Azure API Management (APIM), including API policies, security, routing, and lifecycle management.
  • Design and develop asynchronous and event-driven integrations using Azure Service Bus (ASB), Azure Event Hubs (AEH), REST APIs, and messaging patterns.
  • Develop and deploy containerized applications using Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Rancher Kubernetes, and Docker.
  • Apply Azure cloud architecture principles including networking, identity, security, scalability, availability, monitoring, and resiliency.
  • Use Python for scripting, automation, utilities, operational tooling, and supporting application development activities.
  • Assist developers, analysts, and architects in conceptualizing, evaluating, and validating technical solutions that meet business and architectural requirements.
  • Prototype new technologies and application capabilities to improve functionality, scalability, performance, and information flow.
  • Perform code reviews and ensure development standards are followed for security, performance, maintainability, reliability, and scalability.
  • Assist in QA efforts by providing technical input for test cases, supporting test execution, troubleshooting defects, and validating application functionality.
  • Work closely with DevOps, Cloud Engineering, Infrastructure, Security, QA, and Enterprise Architecture teams to support CI/CD, deployment, monitoring, and production readiness.
  • Mentor team members on Java, Spring Boot, microservices, API development, Azure cloud technologies, Kubernetes, and software engineering best practices.
  • Work with Enterprise teams to ensure changes are properly documented, communicated, audited, and deployed in compliance with established procedures.
  • Troubleshoot complex application, API, cloud, Kubernetes, and integration issues and provide technical leadership during incident resolution.
  • Participate in 24x7 rotational technical support to resolve business-critical production issues and document root cause and resolution.

Required Qualifications

Experience: Minimum of 10+ years of related software development experience, with strong experience in Java-based enterprise application development. Experience with Java, Spring Boot, microservices architecture, REST APIs, Azure API Management, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Hubs, AKS, Rancher Kubernetes, Python, and Azure Cloud is preferred.
Experience providing technical leadership, leading solution design, mentoring developers, and supporting enterprise-scale production applications is required.
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, information systems, computer engineering, software engineering, or a related field. Any suitable combination of education and experience will be considered.

 

Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of Java and Spring Boot for enterprise application and microservices development.
  • Advanced knowledge of microservices architecture, including service decomposition, API-first design, distributed systems, resiliency, scalability, fault tolerance, and observability.
  • Advanced knowledge of RESTful API design and development.
  • Advanced knowledge and hands-on experience with Azure API Management (APIM), including API security, policies, routing, versioning, and lifecycle management.
  • Advanced knowledge of asynchronous messaging and event-driven architecture using Azure Service Bus (ASB) and Azure Event Hubs (AEH).
  • Strong knowledge of Azure Cloud architecture and services, including networking, identity and access management, security, monitoring, scalability, and availability.
  • Advanced knowledge of containerized application development and deployment using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and Rancher-managed Kubernetes environments.
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes concepts including deployments, services, pods, ConfigMaps, secrets, ingress, health probes, autoscaling, and application troubleshooting.
  • Strong knowledge of Python for application development, scripting, automation, and operational tooling.
  • Advanced understanding of application and API security concepts including OAuth 2.0, JWT, certificates, managed identities, and secure service-to-service communication.
  • Experience with CI/CD and DevOps technologies such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with Git-based source control, branching strategies, automated builds, testing, and deployment.
  • Knowledge of application monitoring and observability technologies such as Dynatrace Monitoring, Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Log Analytics, distributed tracing, and centralized logging.
  • Knowledge of relational and NoSQL database technologies and experience integrating applications with enterprise data platforms.
  • Strong understanding of software design patterns, object-oriented design principles, and enterprise application architecture.
  • Experience designing and supporting high-volume, highly available, business-critical applications and APIs.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, problem-solving, and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership, mentor developers, conduct code reviews, and establish development best practices.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts and collaborate with developers, architects, infrastructure, security, DevOps, business teams, and external partners.
